posted @ 13:30... I was a Tom Cruise fan. A Few Good Men is a classic, as is Rain Man. I really enjoyed both Mission Impossible Movies. And I thought Far and Away and Days of Thunder were cool, even though they tanked. But I am no longer a fan of the man.
First, he leaves his wife, with whom he has children. It was rumored that he made a list of potential wives, so that his publicist could call them and express his interest. I'm not big on rumors, but either way, he got himself one. He goes on Oprah and acts all crazy, bouncing on the furniture like an unruly puppy.
Then, he says that psychology is a psuedo science, and suggests that postpartum depression can be cured by vitamins and exercise. (Brooke Shields responded in People Magazine: "Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them.")
And finally, he states that he believes in aliens.
All this and Scientology too! What a nut job.

posted @ 20:58... I just realized that it's now been 4 years since this blog began. Has blogging even been around that long? I guess so. It's hard to believe that this nonsense is averaging 90 unique visitors per day... Wow. I suppose we can thank the Iraq deployment for that, huh.
Thanks for reading.

posted @ 00:58... It's four in the morning Baghdad time, and I'm wide awake. Working the night shift means I'm sitting in the office doing three of my favorite things: drinking coffee, surfing the web and watching DVD's. I'm also just being here in case any of the sleeping Soldiers suddenly wake up and come in with legal issues. They'd have to brave the current sand storm to do so. Everything, even inside the building, has a thin layer of dust. I love working the night shift though. Nobody bothers me, and I can chat with my wife. Plus, I get to sleep all day as the outdoor temperature rises to over 100° F.

posted @ 21:09... Spoiled by Wikipedia. I have gotten so used to being able to fix grammar & spelling errors on Wikipedia, that now when I visit other websites and find such errors, I instictively look for the "Edit Page" button. Speaking of grammar & spelling, here's an interesting forum topic. It's nice to see there are others out there as persnickety as I am about this subject.

posted @ 21:01... One of the more prominent bloggers these days, Michelle Malkin, pointed folks to a recent gallup poll. The pollsters posed the following: "I am going to read you a list of institutions in American society. Please tell me how much confidence you, yourself, have in each one: a great deal, quite a lot, some, or very little. . . ."
Turns out, as you'll see from the results, the military got the highest marks. 74% of those polled have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the military. It seems the American public has more confidence in us than they do the police, the presidency, and even the supreme court. Weird.
As you might expect, most Americans have "some" or "very little" confidence in big business, HMO's, and congress.
But what about the news media? Roughly 71% of those polled have "some" or "very little" confidence in TV news and newspapers.

posted @ 01:26... Just saw the trailer for the Dukes of Hazzard movie. Looks like it'll be pretty darn funny. I'm looking forward to seeing Willie Nelson as Uncle Jesse, but I'm not so sure about Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg. Gotta see it before I judge it, I guess.
As with the final Star Wars movie, I suspect the cinematic quality of the film (however good or bad) may be overshadowed by the audience's sense of nostalgia. I actually saw Episode 3 the other day, thanks to folks in third-world countries who sneak video cameras into theaters. While Episode 3 is good (perhaps even great), I can't figure out if it's the movie itself that's so great, or simply my excitement at finally seeing it. The bottom line, though, is that it does the job: I was entertained.
