My second day without wisdom teeth. Lower jaw in considerable pain, upper jaw surprisingly painless. I love milkshakes... and ibuprofen. No PT for a week... Yay! But it's gonna suck when I start running again.

Even after this procedure, my thoughts are constantly on Junebug. I wonder about the kid's personality, physical appearance, voice, intelligence...

We finally told our parents yesterday. They're all very happy. Unfortunately, my sister & her husband have been trying to get pregnant for a while now. And here we come, successful after just 2 months. Well, everybody's different. Sis is plenty happy for us, and we'll be plenty happy for her when the time comes.

So, the real pain started. Nothing a bit of medication couldn't handle though. Fell aseep watching TV, as usual. My amazing wife once again lives up to that adjective by going to the store on a nasty rainy night to pick up pudding and jello. She's taking care of me just like when I had my tonsils out. But I'll be taking care of her plenty as the pregnancy progresses. I guess we're not out to try to prove ur love for each other; we just do what comes naturally.

In other news, got a page up for the baby.

Mouth full of gauze for a few hours, slight pain in the lower rear area of mouth. Yes, it's a wisdom tooth extraction. Not too fun, but a lot more pleasant than I'd expected. I had conscious sedation, which means they knocked me part of the way out. I heard all sorts of pulling & breaking sounds throughout the procedure, but felt absolutely nothing. Pretty nice, except now my mouth is bleeding. But the funny thing is, I did not expect to be this coherent so soon after the procedure. I'm actually typing my thoughts into my blog. Pretty cool, though I hope it makes sense. I guess I'll read it tomorrow to make sure.

Well, three pregnancy tests can't be wrong. She took the final one yesterday, and with each one she took, the 'positive' line was more & more... there! It has something to do w/ a hormone called HCG, and how the test detects it based on how much of the hormone the placenta has produced. The more HCG in the body, the more it'll be detected on a pregnancy test. We've been waiting patiently for the past few months, but not nearly as long as some people have to wait. Considering how many people there are who can't get pregnant no matter how hard they try, I consider ourselves really, really blessed & lucky. Right now, we feel kind of overwhelmed. There's so much to do in the next eight months (i.e. re-do the other bedroom to make it a nursery, get more life insurance, get in the habit of keeping the house clean, etc.) Meanwhile, I've been studying this book:

Here I sit, waiting for my better half to come and pick me up from the education center. This class I'm taking is scheduled to run until 9:00, but we got done at 8:00... Problem is, the wife doesn't have any way of knowing we got out, because I have no wireless phone.

I always rebelled against the wireless phone craze, saying I never wanted to be on a leash, or so easily reachable. But times like this, I could really use one. I had one for a long time. It was useful. The text messaging was especially cool, because we could essentially email each other during work, throughout the day -- even if I was in the middle of waiting on bank customers.

We stopped the wireless phones because they were too expensive. Initially, when we moved to Northern New York, our provider, AT&T Wireless (with whom we were under contract) told us (on several different occasions) that they didn't offer service up here, and that we'd have to go on a nationwide calling plan just to avoid roaming fees. Fine, we said. It was nice to be able to keep our Austin phone numbers anyway. But then we realized what kind of toll our TWO nationwide calling plans was taking on our finances. The most aggravating thing is, we found out a few days ago that AT&T Wireless does indeed offer service up here and always has, and that we'd been on the nationwide plan for no reason other than we were told that was all that was available. So now we're paying tons of money because some sales associate was either stupid, poorly trained, or just downright sneaky. There's my rant for the week.

The better-half said that if we're not pregnant this month, then it's probably not the right time for us to be pregnant, and that we should wait another six months to a year to try again. It takes the average couple around 6 months to get pregnant. So why would we quit after just 2 months of trying? Maybe she doesn't want to be 8-9 months pregnant during the heat of summer. But on the other hand, we live in the North, so it shouldn't be too bad. Either way, I'm a little saddened, because I really want us to have a baby. I never thought I'd actually want kids, but now I'm thinking, "How could I not?" We're not the type of people to have them just for the sake of having them though. People like that bug me. We're not out to overpopulate the earth - just produce some cute little versions of us to take over when we're gone. Well, it'll happen- now or later.

Anyway... a fellow legal guy & I walked into a battalion S1 office the other day. (The S1 office is basically where soldiers w/ desk jobs work), and I asked for a Form 200. The Specialist there sat glued to his solitaire game and muttered, "We ain't got any of those."

My colleague asked him, "Do you even know what a Form 200 is?"
The Specialist finally looked up. "Um, yeah... I think, isn't it a... well, I'm not sure."

Now, why would he say he didn't have any of this particular form if he didn't even know what they were? I hate to dissillusion you, or any reader, but the Army seems to be full of morons. People make their rank based on how shiny their boots are, not how intelligent they are. Some guys get promoted if superiors like them, whether or not they can do the job well. So it's basically the same as corporate America.

PT today was good. Upper body as opposed to running, which is great, but I need to work on my running. I found out today that when we run, there needs to be at least one NCO w/ the group. Apparently, as grown-up Taliban-killing machines, we still need a babysitter to run around the block.

Wife & I went to Utica yesterday. We needed to return stuff to Target, visit the mall, return stuff to Walmart, and stop by Barnes & Noble to enjoy Starbuck's coffee drinks. The town where we live is devoid of such amenities, so we have to drive about 45 minutes to Utica. The proliferation of coffee giant Starbucks has not yet made it to Lowville, NY (population 3,476).

I feel like I took a lot of things for granted in Austin: Amy's Ice Cream, (although it's expensive, and Northern New York is an ice cream lover's paradise), Kerbey Lane Cafe, Chuy's, etc. In Austin (or any other large city), everything you need is within a 15 minute drive. We used to be able to walk 5 minutes to get sushi & authentic Mexican food - not at the same place, of course. Now, we can drive 5 minutes for a greasy hamburger. One of the only decent places in Lowville is Jeb's. A restaurant/bar, Jeb's is right downtown, has decent food, and sometimes the bar even has live music. The food's a bit pricey, so we usually just get an appetizer and then head across the street to the Chinese take-out place

I've been released for the weekend.
The Major just came in and said "What are you doing in front of the computer?"
"Just waiting for my wife to pick me up, sir," I replied.
So he said, "Okay, as long as it's not work! Go home."

Officers are so cool. Many NCO's seem to have chips on their shoulders. In my experience, this doesn't seem to be the case with officers. They actually treat me like a human. Wow.

In other news, I found a funny website: Zug.com. Funny pranks & whatnot...

Friday morning, yay! Another beautiful weekend is close at hand. I'm thrilled even if it's going to be 40 degrees outside. I've got my internet connection, cable TV, and hot chocolate. I quit drinking; apparently, it can be damaging to sperm... but that's probably too much info.

Life is good. My wife's not pissed at me for anything stupid I may have done. I talked to my parents & my brother last night. Should call my sister to check in.

Arrgh, one more unpleasantry to deal with before the weekend: PT. Hence, I go now to run...
